Creeping Up On Halloween With Elvira

Today let's turn our hearts and minds to quintessential piece of Halloween and late night fun. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Always the official some or another of Halloween.

It's her birthday today, so let's celebrate her, Cassandra Peterson. How old is she this year? None Of Your Damn Business years old.

So how did Elvira come to be?

"I know! Someone left me on this doorstep. As if!"

Elvira's been around since the 80's. Cassandra Peterson began as a singer and comedian. In 1981 she found herself with an opportunity to blend a valley girl character she'd created with a quirky, macabre, and sarcastic sensibility. And Elvira rose to local LA TV fame on Elvira's Movie Macabre. And then she took off across the country.

From there she found herself with fans all over the country, and then the world. She's gone on to appear into movies of her own (see my review of Haunted Hills), and in appearance on TV shows. She also made it into video games, pinball, comics, and action figures. Cassandra Peterson also appeared in numerous movies and TV shows.

"Hey, as long as all the moolah comes to me."
As well as doing her show, she's also been ever enjoyable ambassador of Halloween. She's been part of numerous ad campaigns come the season, and headlined events to celebrate the October fun.

30 years on she is still the Queen of Halloween.

And to finish, the opening of the second Elvira's Movie Macabre.
